Class Information
Tappan Choir is open to all 6th-8th grade students.
6th Grade Choir is a full year course. Students alternate choir with a second music elective or P.E. The four sections of 6th grade choir (3rd Hour A, 3rd hour B, 7th Hour A, and 7th Hour B) combine to sing together for three performances each school year. All abilities and levels of experience are welcome in 6th grade choir! By the end of 6th grade choir, students can:
7th Grade Choir meets every day and is a full year course. Students continue to develop healthy vocal technique, sight-singing and music notation skills, and an appreciation for varied styles of singing. 7th graders have five performances each school year, participate in High School Choir Day, and have the opportunity to audition for District and State Honors Choir.
8th Grade Choir meets every day and is a full year course. Students deepen their understanding of vocal technique, sing in up to four voice parts, sight-sing daily, and are provided with multiple solo audition opportunities throughout the school year. 8th graders perform in Tappan Concerts, Evening of Song and Choral Cavalcade, participate in High School Choir Day, and have the opportunity to audition for District and State Honors Choir.

- project their sound using breath support and proper placement
- use head voice to expand their vocal range and blend throughout their registers
- sing with clear and unified choral diction
- sight-sing simple pitch patterns in C major, with a group and alone
- perform the major scale in solfege by step and in thirds
- identify and write in solfege syllables for their concert repertoire in C, F and G major
- exhibit professional concert etiquette while performing on stage
